This organization values respect, diversity, and inclusion, embodying a culture where every employee, regardless of their title or role, contributes actively to the health and healing mission. UMass Memorial Health espouses a set of six Standards of Respect: Acknowledge, Listen, Communicate, Be Responsive, Be a Team Player, and Be Kind. These principles create a supportive work environment aimed at achieving excellence in healthcare delivery and career growth for employees.
The role being offered is part of the Food Services Cafeteria team in the cost center 10020 - 5070, unionized under UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers). This is a non-exempt position, scheduled for mixed shifts totaling 16 hours per week, mainly during holidays and weekends, from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. The hourly wage range is $19.00 to $30.34, with the final offer reflecting the candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Additionally, a signing bonus may be available, subject to eligibility confirmed during the interview.
The Food Service Worker plays a critical role in assembling, portioning, labeling, and restocking food for cafeteria services while maintaining high standards of hospitality and sanitation. Responsibilities include prepping steam tables with hot foods, salads, desserts, and breakfast items; slicing and preparing deli items such as sandwiches and cheese; replenishing food as necessary; and preparing beverages like coffee. This role demands precision in serving food in prescribed quantities according to established standards and vigilant monitoring of food temperatures to ensure safety and quality. The worker is also responsible for warewashing duties, maintaining the cleanliness of the cafeteria, and assisting in training other food service staff. Participation in special cafeteria events is also expected, contributing to a positive and welcoming customer experience.
Candidates for this position must be at least 18 years old with an educational background equivalent to two years of high school. Essential skills include the ability to follow standardized instructions and procedures, basic English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking, and fundamental understanding of weights, measures, and mathematical functions. Physical requirements entail the ability to stoop, lift up to 30 pounds, and push or pull up to 300 pounds, reflecting the physically demanding nature of the role. As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, UMass Memorial Health encourages applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and is committed to making reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities upon request.
This role is key to ensuring an efficient and hospitable food service environment within the health system, directly impacting both employee and patient satisfaction. Working at UMass Memorial Health offers not only the opportunity to support community health but also to grow within a respected and expansive health system dedicated to inclusivity and excellence.
