The Food Services Cafeteria at UMass Memorial Health is seeking dedicated Food Service Workers to join their team. This position is non-exempt with a hiring pay range of $19.00 to $30.34 per hour, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. The role includes a mixed 8-hour shift, typically scheduled from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with work required every other holiday, weekends, and shifts that occasionally vary to meet operational needs. Food Service Workers play a critical role in ensuring the efficient preparation and distribution of meals in the cafeteria, upholding hygiene and safety standards while delivering hospitable customer service.

Responsibilities for this role include assembling, portioning, labeling, and restocking food items for cafeteria service. Workers prepare the food-serving area by setting up steam tables and arranging items such as hot foods, salads, desserts, fruits, breakfast items, and deli selections like meats and cheeses. They are tasked with replenishing food supplies during service and ensuring food is served in compliance with set standards and portions. Employees perform important duties such as temperature checks of food before and during service to maintain food safety, optimizing stock levels, and assisting with special events hosted by the cafeteria. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the cafeteria and performing warewashing tasks. Experienced Food Service Workers may also assist in training new team members, contributing to a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Physically, the role requires the ability to stoop, lift up to 30 pounds, and push or pull up to 300 pounds, emphasizing the importance of strength and stamina. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess basic math, reading, writing, and communication skills necessary to follow standardized procedures and instructions. This is a union position represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union, and eligible candidates may qualify for a signing bonus, which will be discussed during the interview process by a member of the recruitment team.

Joining the UMass Memorial Health Food Services team opens opportunities for those eager to contribute to a vital healthcare support function in one of the region's premier health systems.
