At the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC Greensboro), Compass Group operates as a key campus dining services provider, dedicated to offering students, faculty, staff, and visitors a variety of high-quality food and beverage options. Known for its strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, Compass Group emphasizes employee development and inclusivity to foster a welcoming workplace culture.
Located at 1000 Spring Garden Street, Greensboro, NC, the UNC Greensboro campus dining team is currently seeking motivated individuals to join as Food Unit Leads. This role is available for both full-time and part-time positions, with schedules that may vary depending on specific location needs. Compensation ranges from $14.00 to $18.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of this leadership role within the dining services operation. Employees benefit from perks such as a free bus pass, free parking, a complimentary meal during their shift, and discounted work shoes, enhancing their overall job satisfaction.
The Food Unit Lead position serves as a critical supervisory role that requires coordination and leadership in food service operations. This position is responsible for guiding other food-service employees to ensure a seamless and enjoyable dining experience for all customers. The Food Unit Lead actively participates in food preparation and service while maintaining high standards of sanitation, safety, and presentation. The incumbent oversees the timely and efficient delivery of meals, making sure that portion control and company policies are followed to the letter.
Beyond operational duties, the Food Unit Lead also plays an essential role in staff management by training new employees and coordinating work schedules to maximize efficiency and uphold excellence in service. This role involves planning menus, managing inventory and supplies by ordering from approved vendors, handling cash transactions in line with company protocols, and maintaining accurate reports including payroll and production records. The position also demands vigilance in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, as the Food Unit Lead develops sanitation schedules and ensures strict compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Customer service is paramount to this role, requiring the Food Unit Lead to address complaints promptly and professionally, both in person and through electronic communication channels. By issuing clear guidance and instructions, this leader fosters a positive work atmosphere and encourages team collaboration. The role is instrumental in selecting, orienting, and training staff, assuring that all team members are well-prepared to meet operational standards.
Compass Group’s commitment extends beyond operational excellence to the personal and professional welfare of its employees. Opportunities for training and development are abundant, enhancing career growth and job satisfaction. Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health wellness programs, identity theft protection, and various voluntary benefits. Full-time associates also receive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability coverage, amongst other perks. Additionally, the company supports work-life balance through paid and unpaid time off benefits where applicable.
Compass Group prides itself on fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. The company is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to fairness and respect, ensuring that all candidates and employees are evaluated on merit without discrimination. Given this role is within an educational setting, employment conditions may vary seasonally with potential temporary layoffs during academic breaks, though year-round work may be required depending on business needs.
