Located at the Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Morrison Living is currently seeking motivated individuals for the full-time and part-time Food Unit Lead position. This role offers a competitive pay range of $17.00 to $20.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of skilled culinary leadership in our operations. The position involves flexible scheduling with hours and days that may vary, offering candidates the opportunity to find work-life balance while engaging in rewarding work.

The Food Unit Lead plays a pivotal role in coordinating the activities of food-service employees, ensuring the delivery of top-tier culinary and hospitality services. This role is ideal for individuals with at least two years of line cook experience who are passionate about food preparation, team leadership, and creating memorable dining experiences. The Food Unit Lead is responsible for overseeing food and beverage preparation and service, adhering to company standards for presentation, sanitation, safety, and portion control. They assist in menu planning and ensure timely, efficient meal service while responding promptly to any customer feedback or complaints.

Beyond culinary expertise, the Food Unit Lead is a key figure in staff training, workforce coordination, work procedure development, and inventory management. This position requires proficient cash handling in line with the Food Accounting Manual and involves ordering food and supplies from approved sources. Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards to comply with company policies and government regulations is critical, and the Food Unit Lead develops and enforces sanitation schedules to ensure kitchen and dining areas remain spotless.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • provide quality customer service by providing one-on-one attention to detail
  • oversee and participate in the preparation and service of food and beverage items in accordance with company standards for presentation, sanitation, safety and portion control
  • help plan menus
  • ensure timely, efficient meal service
  • supervise serving of meals
  • respond to customer complaints in person and via email
  • train employees and assign and coordinate work to promote efficiency and excellence in food and service
  • determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow
  • use proper systems for completion of daily, weekly, monthly reports such as inventory, cash reports, production records, payroll and timekeeping
  • handle cash properly as established by the Food Accounting Manual
  • order food and necessary supplies from approved sources
  • direct and participate in overall sanitation and safety in accordance with company standards and government regulations
  • develop sanitation schedules and ensure adherence for cleaning of kitchen and dining areas and washing of utensils and equipment
  • issue written and oral instructions
  • help select and orient employees and oversee staff training
  • perform other duties as assigned
