We are currently seeking a dedicated and organized Food Unit Lead to join the team at East Point Academy in West Columbia, SC. This full-time position offers a generous pay rate of $15.00 per hour, with a schedule from Monday to Friday, with hours that may vary based on operational needs. The role is pivotal in managing daily food service activities to deliver a superior dining experience for students, staff, and visitors alike. As the Food Unit Lead, you will oversee a team of food-service employees, coordinating their tasks to maintain efficient and quality meal service in compliance with company standards, including food safety, sanitation, and portion control.

Your responsibilities will include supervising food preparation and service, planning menus to meet nutritional guidelines, responding promptly to customer feedback, and ensuring proper cash handling and inventory management. Training and developing staff to meet performance expectations and fostering a positive working environment are key aspects of this leadership role. Additionally, the Food Unit Lead is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the kitchen and dining areas, adhering to government regulations and company policies. This position demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence in culinary and customer service operations.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous food service experience preferred but not required
  • ability to work full time Monday through Friday with variable hours
  • ability to handle cash accurately
  • strong organizational and leadership skills
  • ability to follow food safety and sanitation regulations
  • must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Duties

  • Provide quality customer service by giving one-on-one attention to detail
  • oversee and participate in the preparation and service of food and beverage items ensuring compliance with company standards for presentation, sanitation, safety, and portion control
  • assist in menu planning
  • ensure timely and efficient meal service by supervising serving of meals
  • respond to customer complaints both in person and via email
  • train employees and assign and coordinate work to promote efficiency and excellence in food and service
  • determine work procedures, prepare schedules, and expedite workflows
  • use proper systems to complete required reports including inventory, cash, production, payroll, and time-keeping
  • handle cash properly according to the Food Accounting Manual
  • order food and supplies from approved sources
  • direct and participate in sanitation and safety efforts in accordance with company standards and government regulations
  • develop sanitation schedules and ensure adherence for cleaning and washing duties
  • issue written and oral instructions
  • assist in employee selection and orientation and oversee staff training
  • perform other assigned duties
