Job Description
Chartwells K12 is a leading foodservice provider dedicated to enhancing the dining experience of students across various educational institutions. With over 16,000 associates serving in more than 4,300 schools, including large public schools, small charter schools, and private institutions, Chartwells K12 brings decades of expertise in foodservice, education, and operational excellence. The company is committed to providing nutritious, delicious meals that kids love while promoting wellness, sustainability, and nutrition. Their commitment extends beyond just serving food; they aim to ensure that every student leaves the cafeteria healthier and happier than when they arrived. Chartwells K12 is a part of Compass Group, a global leader in food and support services, known for its emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
The role of Food Transporter/Delivery Driver at Chartwells K12 is a vital position responsible for transporting food, supplies, and other essential products to various units and service areas using company vehicles. This full-time position is based at Oak Park School, located at 13701 Oak Park Boulevard, Oak Park, MI, and includes a scheduled workday from approximately 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM, with days potentially varying as per operational needs. The position offers a fixed pay rate of $17.50 per hour and includes an internal employee referral bonus as an incentive.
As a Food Transporter/Delivery Driver, the individual plays a key role in the overall success of the food service operation by ensuring timely and safe delivery of requisitioned materials, receiving production orders, and maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the delivery vehicle. This role demands excellent attention to detail, adherence to sanitation and safety protocols, and the ability to manage inventory accurately. Moreover, the position requires collaboration with staging clerks and coworkers to maintain smooth operations and uphold company standards.
The job includes responsibilities such as picking up supplies, unloading them at designated locations, ensuring that food items are kept at appropriate temperatures according to company standards, and safely handling all materials. The role also involves routine vehicle maintenance and providing exceptional customer service through direct interactions, ensuring a professional and supportive environment. Since the position operates within an educational facility, there may be unpaid layoff periods during school breaks when food service demand is lower, although the opportunity to work year-round depending on business needs is possible.
Chartwells K12 emphasizes compliance with all applicable regulations, including valid state driver’s licenses and food handler permits where required. The role is integral to maintaining the high standards of safety, quality, and service expected by both the company and the schools it serves. As part of Compass Group’s inclusive and equal opportunity environment, the company welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds and is committed to fair treatment regardless of personal characteristics or protected status. The Food Transporter/Delivery Driver position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on child nutrition and wellness, while enjoying comprehensive benefits and career development possibilities.
