The Food Technologist role at Solina USA is a vital part of the Research & Development team, tasked with driving product innovation and optimization. This full-time position offers an annual salary range of $80,000 to $90,000 and is based in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. The Food Technologist will play a crucial role in creating new seasoning prototypes, managing R&D projects, conducting sensory evaluations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams including sales, quality assurance, operations, and customer service. The position requires hands-on involvement in formulation, processing efficiency improvements, and ingredient sourcing with a focus on maintaining product quality and cost-effectiveness. As part of this role, the technologist will also handle technical support, training of R&D personnel, and ensure compliance with food safety and labeling standards.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in food technology or product development
  • Experience with sauce formulation using hot fill and cold fill technology
  • Ability to conduct sensory evaluations and product testing
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of food safety and labeling regulations
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related degree
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Sauce experience (hot fill and cold fill technology)
  • Understanding of methods and ingredients
  • Understanding regulatory standards and ingredient labeling is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, especially Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Demonstrates strong time management skills, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well under pressure and achieve set goals
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation to fulfill deadlines

Job Duties

  • Creates novel seasonings for various items with minimum oversight
  • Matches seasonings to various applications
  • Contacts vendors for novel ingredients and technology
  • Collaborates with internal and external teams including sales, business development, quality assurance, operations, and customer service
  • Manages projects, ensuring timely communication and meeting deadlines
  • Provides formulas, ingredient statements, and usage instructions
  • Conducts sensory evaluations on products
  • Provides technical and operational support as needed
  • Training and developing R&D people
  • Works with QA on labeling and food safety
  • Collaborates with internal departments and external partners to create and implement business models
  • Must have the ability to interact with customers
  • Perform additional duties as given by the direct manager
