We are currently seeking a part-time Food Service Worker/Cashier to join our campus team. This role is essential in ensuring smooth daily operations of food service at CSU Monterey Bay's campus center. The position involves both cashiering responsibilities and general food service duties, providing employees with a dynamic and engaging work environment. Candidates will be responsible for maintaining sanitation standards, serving customers accurately and efficiently, and handling cash transactions with precision. The role requires flexibility with hours, as shifts run Monday through Friday, including weekends, with varying hours that will be detailed during the interview process. Compensation for this part-time position is competitive, offering $16.90 per hour, along with perks like complimentary shift meals and a $55 reimbursement for safety shoes to ensure comfort and protection during work.

As a Food Service Worker/Cashier, you will perform essential food preparation tasks such as washing and preparing fruits and vegetables, weighing and measuring ingredients, and adhering to food safety protocols. You will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in work areas, equipment, and utensils, ensuring compliance with sanitation and safety regulations. Interactions with customers are a key part of the job, requiring excellent communication skills to serve customers friendly and resolve any complaints effectively. Cash handling duties include processing sales, making change, accepting various forms of payment, issuing receipts, and managing cash drawers in accordance with company policies.

Job Requirements

  • Previous food service experience preferred
  • Cash handling experience
  • Ability to operate a cash register
  • Ability to work a part-time schedule including weekends
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain sanitation and safety standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Job Duties

  • Performs prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
  • Weighs and measures designated ingredients
  • Carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
  • Distributes supplies, utensils and portable equipment
  • Stores foods in designated areas in accordance with wrapping, dating, and food safety and rotation procedures
  • Cleans work areas, equipment and utensils
  • Ensures compliance with sanitation and safety requirements
  • Uses approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
  • Serves customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
  • Interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Relays relevant information to supervisor
  • Performs sales transactions
  • Enters sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded
  • Makes change, accepts declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment
  • Issues receipts to customers
  • Follows standard procedures for issuing cash refunds
  • Responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts, ensuring that cash drawer is in compliance with overage/shortage standards
  • Replenishes condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness
  • Performs other duties as assigned
