The role of Food Service Worker at Chattanooga State’s campus is a part-time, temporary contract position that plays a crucial part in supporting the college’s mission by ensuring that quality food service is delivered efficiently and safely. This position is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:15 PM and offers hourly pay based on experience. The Food Service Worker is responsible for preparing and serving food items in various food service settings on campus. Duties include preparing salads, hot and cold foods, and assisting with bakery items when needed. The worker supports the cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and utensils, helping to maintain health and safety standards in the food service environment.

Serving as a key part of the student and campus community support, the Food Service Worker replenishes food, silverware, plates, cutlery, dishes, trays, and condiments at service stations. They also perform cleaning tasks such as washing dishes, spot sweeping floors, and maintaining utensils and equipment. Fiscal responsibility is emphasized through efforts to minimize food waste and control costs by adhering to food preparation and handling guidelines. This position may involve moving food and supplies between kitchen areas using carts or by hand and performing cashier duties when necessary.

The worker attends to equipment and food supply issues, ensuring that spoiled food or defective equipment is reported and handled properly with permissions from the Food Service Director.
