Job Description
Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, is seeking a dedicated Food Services Supervisor to oversee the food preparation operations within its correctional facility. Montgomery County is renowned for its commitment to maintaining safe and secure environments for its residents, which extends to the management of its correctional institutions. The Food Services Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the daily meal services meet stringent standards of quality, safety, and sanitation, serving both staff and the inmate population. This public sector position offers a structured work environment with shifts available from 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM, designed to accommodate the needs of the facility's operations.
This supervisory role entails direct oversight of inmate kitchen workers, including cooks and helpers, coordinating their activities to ensure the efficient preparation of over 6,500 meals daily. The supervisor is responsible for enforcing food safety standards and sanitation protocols, guaranteeing that every meal served meets or exceeds established criteria for taste, nutritional value, and presentation. Given the sensitive nature of the correctional environment, this position requires an individual capable of managing and motivating inmates effectively, ensuring institutional security while maintaining high operational standards.
Beyond routine supervision, the Food Services Supervisor is tasked with conducting in-service training for both food service staff and inmate workers. Training topics focus on proper food handling, sanitation, safety practices, and hygiene, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance within the kitchen. Additionally, the supervisor supports the Director or Assistant Director of Food Services by stepping in as needed, demonstrating flexibility and leadership.
The role also demands proactive maintenance and proper use of kitchen equipment, preventing injury and ensuring operational continuity. The supervisor must adhere to the facility's Standing Operating Procedures (S.O.P.), which dictate responses to unusual or emergency situations while maintaining timely and efficient meal service. The physical demands are significant, including standing, walking, sitting, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, and other activities inherent to kitchen supervision in a secure environment.
Ideal candidates will have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, with prior food service experience considered beneficial. A criminal history check is a mandatory part of the hiring process to align with the security requirements of the correctional setting. This position offers the opportunity to work within a structured team dedicated to the well-being of both staff and inmates, contributing positively to the operational success of Montgomery County's food services.
Montgomery County offers a comprehensive benefits package as a government employer, promoting work-life balance and employee well-being. This is a unique opportunity for individuals seeking a challenging supervisory food service role within a public safety and correctional environment.
