The Food Service Specialist 1 is responsible for assisting in the production and delivery of high-quality food and beverage services within the campus restaurants and service areas. The role involves various tasks such as preparing ingredients, cooking food according to recipes, ensuring proper food temperatures, handling transactions as a cashier, and maintaining clean and organized workstations. Additionally, this position might rotate between different locations or storefronts within the campus food services, requiring flexibility and adaptability from the employee. An essential part of the job is to provide excellent customer service by greeting and serving each customer courteously and efficiently. The Food Service Specialist 1 will contribute to the overall success of the food services by replenishing food stock, assisting in inventory and ordering, and ensuring compliance with all safety and sanitation procedures. This is a fast-paced, dynamic role that requires great attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to meet physical demands, including prolonged standing during shifts. The role also involves participation in training as required to maintain high standards of operation and compliance with campus policies.

Job Duties

  • Prepares ingredients, beverages, and food according to recipes and directions for distribution
  • cooks and prepares food for service
  • completes transactions as a cashier, as needed
  • monitors food temperatures and records
  • sets up and breaks down food stations
  • completes production sheets
  • labels and dates food in the cooler
  • compiles lists of items to be ordered and assists with placing the order
  • replenishes food line items and stocks to appropriate levels
  • stores food safely by following procedures
  • cleans and maintains work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment
  • collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers
  • greets and serves each customer with excellent customer service
  • washes pots, pans, and other items ensuring sanitary handling
  • organizes returns and equipment to the proper location for storage
  • attends trainings, as necessary
  • performs other related duties as assigned
