Job Description
Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) is a prominent public school district located in Tucson, Arizona, dedicated to providing quality education and fostering a supportive community environment. It serves a diverse student population across multiple schools and is committed to promoting inclusivity, equity, and excellence in education. The district supports its employees by offering competitive salaries and benefits, including recent pay increases approved by the community and guaranteed through June 2031. This commitment reflects the district's dedication to valuing its workforce and maintaining a stable, motivated team that is essential for delivering excellent educational and support services to its students.
The current opening is for a supervisory professional role within the Food Services department, specifically managing the daily operations of large or multiple food service units that serve more than 500 lunch meal equivalents daily. This position plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth functioning of meal programs across the district, adhering strictly to departmental, district, and regulatory requirements. As a Food Services Manager, the individual will oversee daily food production, service, and related operations, ensuring that all meals are prepared and served according to health and safety standards. The role adjusts hours based on customer participation volume, offering a dynamic and engaging work environment.
This position is classified as a full-time equivalent (FTE) at 1.0, working 8 hours per day with either a 10-month or 12-month work calendar. There are four positions available, including two 10-month floating roles and two 12-month roles assigned by grouping. The role requires supervisory experience and a strong background in food service production and management. The district offers a professional and collaborative work setting where team members are encouraged to apply their skills in a supportive atmosphere that values diversity and inclusion.
Importantly, candidates should be prepared to complete several requirements before starting, including a fingerprint background check, immunization verification, completion of a Health Department Food Service Operator's Certificate within three months of hire, and a series of physical and driving-related checks to ensure compliance with district policies. This thorough vetting process reinforces the district's commitment to safety and quality for its employees and the community it serves.
This job offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, with prorated pay if starting after the beginning of the work calendar. Internal candidates transferring within the district will have salary placement consistent with their bargaining unit language. However, it should be noted that positions with less than 30 hours per week are ineligible for district benefits. Tucson Unified School District is an equal opportunity employer committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of disability, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or national origin. Individuals passionate about contributing to a strong school community through efficient and effective food service management are encouraged to apply today and join a district that values their expertise and dedication.
