The Food Services Department within PUSD plays a crucial role in ensuring that nutritious meals and food-related supplies are delivered efficiently across the district. The Food Services Driver position is a vital role designed to maintain the smooth operation of food delivery services across the school district, primarily located in Peoria, AZ. This role is a 10-month term position with a Salary Classification of 10, reflecting the importance and responsibility associated with the job. As the Food Services Driver, the incumbent will be responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of food products, materials, supplies, and equipment that are necessary for feeding thousands of students daily throughout the district.

The position includes accepting, reviewing, and unloading delivery trucks, carefully determining appropriate storage locations for received items, and ensuring that shelves are adequately stocked. This role requires diligence in reviewing requisitions and pick lists to gather items from both Food and Nutrition and Warehouse areas, followed by loading and delivering these items to various school sites. Interaction with school staff and other delivery personnel to resolve any delivery issues is a key aspect of the job, making communication skills essential. The driver is also required to perform routine vehicle maintenance checks and minor servicing before and after routes to ensure reliability and safety on the road.

The job demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the physical ability to lift and carry supplies that may weigh up to 50 pounds. Exposure to various environmental conditions, including working outdoors in different weather scenarios and around potentially hazardous materials, is part of the role. The Food Services Driver is expected to comply with all district policies as well as federal, state, county, and city statutes and regulations.

This position is supervised by the Director of Food Service and requires adherence to safety protocols, sound inventory control, and excellent record-keeping practices. Successful candidates should be ready to demonstrate proficiency in handling delivery logistics, managing files and inventories, and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, and community members. This role embodies PUSD's commitment to operational excellence and student health through dependable and responsible delivery of necessary food services supplies and products.

Job Requirements

  • Must possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Must be able to pass a background clearance check
  • May be required to possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver license
  • May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases
  • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of relevant driving, delivery, warehouse, inventory, stocking or closely related experience
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes
  • Knowledge of file and records management principles
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles
  • Skill in interpreting and applying relevant laws and policies
  • Skill in processing and filling work orders
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations
  • Skill in operating a personal computer using various software

Job Duties

  • Accepts, reviews and unloads delivery trucks
  • Determines appropriate location for received food products and supplies

  • Loads truck
  • Delivers items
  • Works with staff at school site to resolve issues and concerns
  • Maintains and updates files and records of deliveries
  • Checks and maintains vehicle prior to and following route
  • Performs routine maintenance and services on vehicle
  • Identifies needs requiring additional or extensive repairs and/or maintenance
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
