This particular role within Regional One Health is integral to the Food and Nutrition Services Department, which plays a critical role in ensuring patient health and satisfaction through high standards of food preparation and delivery. The position involves performing a variety of routine duties that cover all aspects of food service operations, such as preparing foods for cafeteria and patient services, serving food, and managing catering for special events. The Food and Nutrition Services team member will interact extensively with patients, families, and hospital staff, delivering meals, replenishing the cafeteria service line, and ensuring hygiene and cleanliness standards are consistently met. Additionally, this role requires operating various kitchen equipment safely, supporting storeroom functions including inventory management, and facilitating special event catering logistics.

The ideal candidate will be trained in proper food handling procedures and committed to maintaining sanitary conditions. Job Requirements

  • six months experience in institutional food service setting preferred

Job Duties

  • Performs a variety of routine duties in all areas of Food and Nutrition Services
  • prepares food for serving as directed including washing and peeling vegetables, preparing sandwiches and salads, slicing desserts
  • serves food from cafeteria counter or on serving line
  • rearranges and replenishes items as needed
  • delivers food and returns soiled containers to dishwashing area
  • delivers meal trays and nourishments to nursing areas and patients
  • picks up and returns trays to kitchen
  • delivers and picks up menus from patients
  • cleans counters, tables, equipment, utensils and furniture
  • practices proper food handling procedures
  • covers, labels and stores food and supplies in accordance with sanitary standards and policies
  • fills requested catered event orders and provides delivery, set-up and retrieval of kitchen equipment
  • operates food preparation equipment such as vegetable peeler, toaster, grinder, chopper
  • operates dishwashing equipment as needed
  • provides assistance with catered functions including prioritizing activities and schedules to meet deadlines of food preparation, delivery, set-up, service and clean-up
  • removes outdated usage
  • utilizes appropriate tables decorations and presentations
  • performs storeroom activities including monitoring or restocking pantry items, food and supplies
  • maintains appropriate par levels
  • receives supplies and equipment checking quality and quantity for compliance
  • ensures requisitions are issued and entered
  • maintains storage area for efficient utilization
  • works effectively as a team member within department and with customers and hospital staff
  • interacts and works collaboratively with patients, families and hospital staff in a courteous manner
  • assists personnel by performing tasks to keep department operating efficiently
  • maintains required department records, reports and files
  • adheres to policies, procedures, compliance, quality improvement with attention to risk management, infection control and patient safety
  • maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and personnel
  • cleans and assists with care and maintenance of department equipment, utensils and furnishings
  • reports equipment malfunctions
  • disposes of trash by transporting to disposal area
  • maintains confidentiality in patient, family, department and hospital information
  • provides coverage for relief and absences within department
  • demonstrates flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • completes required continuous training and education including department-specific requirements
