Job Description

Henry Ford College, a renowned educational institution committed to fostering an enriching learning environment, is offering an exciting opportunity for a part-time Food Service Associate position spanning 10 months per year. As a respected community college, Henry Ford College prides itself on providing quality education and supportive services to students, staff, and visitors. The campus also features dining options, including the Skylight Caf and Boulevard Grill, where fresh, delicious food is prepared and served by dedicated food service personnel.

This Food Service Associate role is essential to the smooth daily operations of the Skylight Caf deli station. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for preparing sandwiches and other deli items catering to the needs of the college community, special events, and catering orders as assigned by the Manager or Kitchen Leader. This role is not only about food preparation but also entails managing food storage, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the work area, cooking utensils, and equipment. The associate is charged with monitoring inventory levels across the deli and catering stations to ensure consistent availability of products and preparedness for busy periods.

In addition to food preparation duties, this role requires flexibility to assist with cashier responsibilities, including operating the second cash register during high-traffic times to facilitate efficient customer service. This aspect highlights the importance of customer interaction skills, emphasizing friendliness, patience, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced restaurant, deli, or pizzeria environment. Certification in ServSafe or equivalent food safety training is highly desirable to uphold the college's high health and safety standards. Physical strength and agility are essential, as the job involves continuous standing, bending, lifting, and performing moderately heavy manual labor. Commitment to conscientious work behavior, sound decision-making skills, and the ability to maintain a positive outlook while providing excellent customer service are crucial traits for success in this role.

Beyond technical abilities, the Food Service Associate is expected to demonstrate cooperative teamwork, dependability, and reliability. These soft skills complement the technical competencies and create a supportive and productive workplace atmosphere. This position offers valuable experience for individuals seeking an entry or mid-level role in food service, particularly within an educational institution that values community and quality.

The employment type is part-time over a 10-month period, offering a flexible schedule that fits well for students or individuals seeking supplemental income. Salary details are commensurate with experience, reflecting the part-time, seasonal nature of the position. This opportunity also provides a stable work environment backed by the prestigious Henry Ford College, known for its commitment to equality, inclusivity, and employee development.
