Job Description

The Food Services Assistant position is based at Ryan Elementary School in Lafayette, Colorado, and is a vital role within the Food Services Department of BVSD. This position is a part-time, unit-based role working approximately 18.76 hours per week, classified as regular and ongoing employment under a 9-month hourly schedule. The salary range for this position starts from $17.96 and extends up to $24.73 per hour, depending on experience and education qualifications. As a Food Services Assistant, the role provides crucial support for daily school meal operations by preparing and serving meals according to menus and strict Standard Operating Procedures set forth by the BVSD Food Services Department. This includes duties related to reheating, salad bar setup, and meal service line presentation to ensure smooth and efficient meal periods for students and staff. The Food Services Assistant also plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with food safety standards. Responsibilities include receiving and storing food and supplies with proper rotation and labeling, assisting with inventory counts, and performing cashiering tasks such as managing meal sales and processing payments using front-of-house software. The position requires collaboration with the Kitchen Satellite Lead and other team members to uphold allergen procedures and ensure accurate documentation through temperature logs, production records, and meal counts.   • Proficient operation of QSP point of sale software system preferred
  • Understand and follow all HACCP Standard Operating Procedures preferred

Job Duties

  • Participate in the proper reheating of main course items, side dishes and salad bar preparation and serving of meals according to the BVSD FS Department Standard Operating Procedures
  • Understand and communicate the BVSD Food Services Program philosophy and inform FS staff and the school community of the District Wellness Policy, meals, food sources, recipes, and overall Food Services program goals on a daily basis
  • Participate and maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen, cafeteria, and storage areas under the auspices of the Food Service Department, including walk-ins, refrigeration, freezers, dry storage, and Food Service site office areas
  • Participate in meal service periods assigned as server or cashier, following menu instructions, portion sizes and utilizing proper equipment
  • Maintain a smooth flow of service and work closely with co-workers to assure pleasurable dining experience for students, staff and faculty
  • Participate in proper receiving, storage, and inventorying of all food, paper, chemicals and dry stores according to BVSD FS Department Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure freshness of all prepared items by implementing proper rotation of food, proper wrapping and labeling, and preparing assigned food quantities
  • Assist in accurate inputting of production and meal count data for National School Lunch Program compliance
  • Review and handle student allergen reports and follow procedures for preparing and serving meals to students with allergies
  • Assist the Kitchen Satellite Lead in accurate reporting of sales transactions, account balances, fund collection, processing advanced payments, and preparing daily deposit slips
  • Record and maintain temperature logs for equipment, food production, and transport as outlined in BVSD FS Standard Operating Procedures
  • Foster district commitment to excellence and equity by ensuring employees and students are valued, respected and provided a positive work/learning environment
  • Establish positive relations with internal and external customers including students, staff, school administration, parents and community members
  • Perform other duties as assigned
