Job Description

Siloam Mission is a Christian-based non-profit service organization located in Manitoba, Canada. Established in 1987, it is dedicated to supporting individuals who have experienced homelessness and face challenges such as mental health issues, physical and cognitive disabilities, addictions, or trauma. As a full-time Food Services Assistant at Siloam Mission, you will play an essential role in supporting the Food Services Supervisor to ensure the efficient delivery of nutritious meals to the residents of the Madison, a residential facility operated by the mission. This position requires adherence to all food preparation and serving regulations and compliance with the safety and cleanliness standards set forth by the City of Winnipeg Health Authority. Your responsibilities will include assisting with timely meal service, maintaining hygiene through comprehensive cleaning and sanitation of all food contact surfaces, pots, pans, and dining areas, and managing dishwashing operations including manual cleaning of dish machines. Collaboration with team members and volunteers is a key component of this role, as is providing direction and assigning responsibilities to volunteer staff to maintain smooth kitchen operations. The ability to adapt to changes in the environment, communicate effectively, and follow instruction accurately are critical to success in this role.

The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with the possibility of overtime when necessary. Physical demands include the ability to stand for extended periods, work with food allergens, lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds, and operate in a variety of temperature conditions. The workplace environment requires proper use of hair nets and comfortable walking shoes, with cleaning duties that involve sweeping, mopping, disinfecting, and handling cleaning chemicals. Safety is a top priority, with responsibilities including adherence to workplace safety and health regulations, infection control, WHMIS, and safe work procedures. The Food Services Assistant will participate in safety and health training programs, emergency plans, and maintain a safe environment for both clients and staff. The potential for hazardous conditions can include unpredictable behaviors from community members, requiring vigilance and appropriate safety measures.

Job Duties

  • Assist with serving meals on time
  • preform cleaning duties including washing, and return dishes to the proper place, clean and sanitize all food contact surfaces
  • wash all pots and pans, return to them to the proper place
  • manually clean the dish machine nightly, clean sinks, and return all items to proper place
  • wash all tables and chairs, sweep and mop dining room floor
  • work with team members and volunteers in the overall operation of the kitchen
  • provide direction and assign responsibilities to volunteers
  • perform other tasks that may be assigned by the Supervisor
