The Food Service Worker role at NMS is a vital position responsible for delivering exceptional food service across multiple locations on a university campus. This position requires a dynamic individual capable of working full shifts from open to close, handling a range of responsibilities from food preparation and cooking to cleaning and maintenance of work areas. The job involves operating point-of-sale (POS) systems to process food sales accurately and maintaining product levels to ensure a seamless customer experience. Food Service Workers will assist customers by providing information and recommendations regarding food and beverage options. A key part of the role includes managing cash drawers and preparing deposits, alongside supporting the execution of large periodic cleaning projects. The position emphasizes teamwork and adherence to company standards, with no responsibility for supervising other staff. Set in an indoor cafeteria environment within the university setting, the role demands physical activity such as standing for long periods, lifting up to 35 pounds, and using fine motor skills. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • acquisition of Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certification within 30 days of hire
  • minimum six months cashier experience
  • minimum six months related food service experience
  • minimum six months customer service experience
  • ability to speak, understand, read and write English
  • ability to work open to close shifts
  • physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift up to 35 pounds frequently
  • ability to work in an indoor cafeteria environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire
  • six months cashier experience
  • six months of related food service experience
  • six months of customer service experience
  • contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English
  • preferred one year of customer service experience
  • preferred one year of food prep or related experience

Job Duties

  • Properly inputs sales into the POS systems
  • continuously checks work areas to ensure all product levels are maintained and refreshed
  • continuously cleans and wipes work areas including removing garbage, cleaning dishes, coffee machines, countertops
  • reports to the supervisor any problems with the quality or quantity of food being served
  • assists customers with general information, inquiries, food and beverage order selection and recommendations
  • counts cash drawers to prepare deposit
  • prepares food and cooks entrees
  • assists with various periodically scheduled large cleaning projects
  • performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit's success
