The Food Service Worker/Cashier position at Chartwells K12 offers both full-time and part-time opportunities located at Chester Upland School District in Chester, Pennsylvania. This role requires previous experience in customer and food service and comes with a fixed pay rate of $18.03 per hour. The work schedule runs Monday through Friday with hours that may vary; full details are provided during the interview process. Employees in this role perform a variety of tasks essential to smooth cafeteria operations, including cashiering duties, food preparation, maintaining sanitation standards, and providing excellent customer service. This position plays a vital role in ensuring food safety, quality, and customer satisfaction in the school dining environment.
As a Food Service Worker/Cashier, you will be responsible for prepping fruits and vegetables, weighing and measuring ingredients, carrying trays and food between workstations safely, distributing supplies, and complying with food safety protocols like proper wrapping, dating, and storage. You'll maintain cleanliness of your work area and equipment, consistently follow approved recipes and portion controls, and provide service with a friendly and efficient attitude. Cash handling duties include performing sales transactions, making change, issuing receipts, and managing cash drawers in line with company standards. Additionally, you will replenish condiments and beverages and ensure the overall service area is neat and welcoming. The position requires interaction with students and staff, where problem resolution and communication skills are paramount.

Job Duties
- perform prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
- weigh and measure designated ingredients
- carry pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
- distribute supplies, utensils and portable equipment
- store foods in designated areas in accordance with wrapping, dating, and food safety and rotation procedures
- clean work areas, equipment and utensils
- ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements
- use approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
- serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
- interact with customers and resolve customer complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- relay relevant information to supervisor
- perform sales transactions
- enter sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded
- make change, accept declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment
- issue receipts to customers
- follow standard procedures for issuing cash refunds
- responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts, ensuring that cash drawer is in compliance with overage/shortage standards
- replenish condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness
- perform other duties as assigned
