The role available at Midwestern State University is a full-time Food Service Worker/Cashier position, designed to support the university’s food service operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring that students, faculty, and staff receive not only quality meals but also excellent customer service. The Food Service Worker/Cashier will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in food service areas, and performing cashier duties efficiently. The position follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, providing a stable work routine.

The Food Service Worker/Cashier is expected to handle front-line interactions with customers, addressing their needs with a friendly and service-oriented attitude. Beyond customer service, the role includes responsibilities such as prepping fruits and vegetables, weighing and measuring ingredients, maintaining dish and equipment cleanliness, storing food items safely, and ensuring adherence to safety and sanitation standards in all food-related activities. Cash handling and accurate transaction recording are also essential components of the job, requiring attention to detail and integrity.

Job Requirements

prior fast food, food service, and customer service experience
high school diploma or equivalent
ability to work a full-time schedule, monday through friday, 1 pm to 9 pm
capability to stand for extended periods
ability to follow food safety and sanitation standards
strong customer service skills
ability to operate cash registers
willingness to comply with company policies and procedures

Job Duties

performs prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
weighs and measures designated ingredients
carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
distributes supplies, utensils and portable equipment
stores foods in designated areas in accordance with wrapping, dating, and food safety and rotation procedures
cleans work areas, equipment and utensils
ensures compliance with sanitation and safety requirements
uses approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
serves customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
relays relevant information to supervisor
performs sales transactions
enters sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded
makes change, accepts declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment
issues receipts to customers
follows standard procedures for issuing cash refunds
responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts, ensuring that cash drawer is in compliance with overage/shortage standards
replenishes condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness
performs other duties as assigned
