The Food Service Worker position within Kings Canyon Unified School District plays an integral role in the preparation and service of food at school cafeterias. Attention to detail in food preparation, customer service skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with others are key aspects of the job. Physical demands include standing for long periods, frequent walking, and occasional lifting of heavy items up to 50 pounds. The candidate must also be able to operate kitchen machinery like mixers, grinders, and dishwashers.

The Food Service Worker must hold a valid California Driver's License as some duties may involve transporting food to satellite kitchens. Prior food service experience is preferred, and candidates must pass a district food service test if selected for an interview. The position demands adherence to safety protocols, the ability to work in varying temperature conditions, and engagement in routine cleaning and inventory activities. Job Requirements

  • Valid California driver's license
  • Ability to stand for long periods and walk frequently
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to use hand strength to grasp tools continuously
  • Ability to work in hot and cold temperature extremes
  • Ability to raise voice to be heard in loud environments
  • Pass KCUSD Food Service Test
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior food service experience preferred
  • Ability to add and make change correctly and quickly
  • Basic math skills applicable to measurement and money handling
  • Ability to maintain good grooming and personal hygiene
  • Ability to prepare simple foods such as hot and cold sandwiches

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions

Job Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of main dishes, vegetables, salads, fruits, sandwiches, and beverages
  • Assist in baking of breads, cookies, cakes, pastries and other desserts
  • Set up utensils and equipment for lunches
  • Serve a wide variety of lunches and snacks to students, faculty and others
  • May assist with the collection of moneys received from the sale of school lunches, snacks and other food stuffs
  • Clean and store dishes, utensils, cafeteria equipment and food supplies
  • Clean work areas and dispose of refuse
  • May assist with wrapping, packing and loading of food for transport to satellite serving kitchen
  • May assist in taking inventory
  • May supervise student helpers
  • Operate mixer, grinder, dishwasher and other equipment common to large kitchens
  • Perform other duties as requested
