The network is fully integrated and comprises of three hospitals: PIH Health Downey Hospital, PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital, and PIH Health Whittier Hospital. Besides hospitals, PIH Health operates 37 outpatient medical office buildings, a multispecialty medical physician group, home healthcare services, hospice care, and specialty care centers focused on heart, cancer, digestive health, orthopedics, women’s health, urgent care, and emergency services. Known nationally for excellence in patient care and patient experience, the organization is recognized for its cutting-edge advancements, quality of care, and use of healthcare technology. The role of a Patient Tray Server at PIH Health involves performing a broad range of tasks related to the serving of patient meal trays, including hot and cold entrees, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and supplements. The employee is responsible for taking and logging temperature readings of hot and cold foods on the trayline, as well as dishmachine and refrigerator/freezer temperatures. This ensures compliance with food safety standards, particularly Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) protocols. A significant aspect of the job includes loading patient trays into meal carts and delivering these carts or late trays to nursing stations, ensuring timely and accurate food service to patients. The position also includes working on the patient trayline — setting up service lines, serving meals, breaking down the line post-service, and sanitation duties. The Patient Tray Server takes part in a variety of cleaning tasks such as detail cleaning, washing dishes, pots, and pans; additionally, they are responsible for stocking and cleaning work areas, maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen environment. This role demands adherence to standardized recipes and portion control protocols to meet dietary guidelines and patient needs effectively.

This position requires flexibility to perform other food service-related duties as required by operational needs. The opportunity offers a variable shift at the PIH Health location at 12401 Washington Blvd, with a competitive salary ranging from $21.00 to $28.35 per hour. The job is suitable for individuals with at least six months of food service experience—preferred though not mandatory—and a willingness to work in a fast-paced, patient-focused hospital environment. The ideal candidate should be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken, and have a basic understanding of modified diets which will be valuable in supporting patient dietary requirements.
