Job Description
This opportunity is with an educational institution's food service department committed to providing quality nutrition and meals to students throughout the academic year. The institution operates on a 185-day work calendar for the 26-27 school year, highlighting its dedication to consistent service and support for the community it serves. As a vital part of this establishment, the food service team ensures that nutritious, safe, and appealing meals are available according to established meal schedules and dietary requirements. This role is positioned within a structured environment focusing on high standards of food production quality, sanitation, and safety practices while fostering effective teamwork and interaction among staff members.
The position entails preparing and serving appropriate quantities of food aligned with planned menus using standardized recipes to ensure consistency and uniformity in food offerings. The role also involves overseeing the storage and handling of food items and supplies, maintaining clean and organized storage areas, and operating kitchen tools and equipment in compliance with prescribed safety standards. Employees in this position play a crucial role in promoting portion control and proper use of leftovers, contributing positively to minimizing waste and optimizing resource use. This job requires a hands-on approach to food preparation and safe kitchen practices, including maintaining personal hygiene standards and correcting unsafe conditions promptly to preserve workplace safety.
Beyond food preparation, the role encompasses assisting with cashier functions such as scanning meals and managing monetary transactions, helping to record food requisitions and supply orders, and maintaining daily food preparation records. Employees will have opportunities to participate in specialized programs such as the Summer Feeding School Program and the Afternoon Snack Program as assigned by the supervisor. Participation in summer workshops is also expected, which supports ongoing professional development and adherence to food safety and service standards.
Applicants for this food service role must demonstrate an ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions, possess working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures, and be capable of operating both large and small kitchen tools safely and effectively. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and reaching while occasionally lifting and carrying items, as well as tolerating exposure to extreme temperature conditions typical of a kitchen environment. The work environment requires employees to maintain a focus on hygiene while ensuring cleanliness in all aspects of food service operations.
This is a compensated position with a starting salary of $13.00 per hour plus additional compensation based on experience, reflecting the value placed on experience and commitment by the institution. The work schedule aligns with the academic calendar to ensure dedicated service delivery during school days, ensuring students receive well-prepared meals that contribute to their overall well-being and learning readiness. This food service role suits individuals committed to high standards of food service, safety, and teamwork within an educational setting, providing a meaningful contribution to student health and nutrition.
