Job Description
Emanate Health is a renowned healthcare system dedicated to delivering exceptional care and service to communities within California. Recognized as the number 1 ranked healthcare system in the United States on Glassdoor's list of "Best Places to Work" in 2021, Emanate Health prides itself on fostering a collaborative environment where every team member plays a vital role in enhancing patient outcomes and supporting community wellness. The organization operates a network of hospitals and healthcare facilities focused on providing comprehensive medical services with compassion and professionalism. Emanate Health is committed to continuous improvement and growth, ensuring both its employees and patients benefit from the highest standards of care and innovation.
The role of Food Service Worker - Per Diem at the Emanate Health Inter-Community Hospital in Covina, California, is an integral position within the hospital's food and nutrition services department. This per diem role involves varied shifts of 8 hours, offering flexibility for candidates interested in contributing on an as-needed basis. The Food Service Worker is responsible for assisting in preparing, distributing, and serving patient and employee meals, ensuring nutritional needs are met with accuracy and care. This includes the preparation and portioning of salads, desserts, beverages, and special patient snacks, along with setting up and breaking down cafeteria food and supplies for meal services. The role functions as a steam table server, maintaining efficient service flow during meal periods.
In addition to direct meal service, the Food Service Worker assembles daily nourishment orders and delivers them to patient areas as required, playing a key role in patient satisfaction and nutritional support. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards is a critical part of the position, with responsibilities that include washing dishes and trays, storing them for future use, and cleaning all food preparation equipment throughout the day. Participation in special cleaning projects and attendance at departmental in-service sessions highlight the role's contribution to the overall hygiene and operational standards of the hospital’s food services.
This position requires knowledge of appropriate food handling techniques and adherence to general sanitation rules, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills and demonstrate a commitment to supporting the high-quality care environment for which Emanate Health is known. While on-the-job training is provided, Serve Safe Certification and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification are preferred qualifications that enhance an applicant's profile.
Employed on a per diem basis, this position offers a pay rate of $22.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of the role in contributing to patient care indirectly but significantly through nutritional service. The role serves as an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking flexibility in their work schedule while contributing to a respected healthcare organization committed to world-class patient care and community health improvement.
