The Food Service Worker position at CHOC is a vital role within the food services department that supports the hospital’s mission to provide outstanding care to children and their families. This position operates during the day shift in an 8-hour schedule, ensuring efficient, friendly, and hygienic food service to customers within the hospital environment. In this role, the Food Service Worker is responsible for various tasks including the preparation of hot and cold foods, grill cooking, portioning meals, handling cash transactions, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards within the kitchen and dining areas. The pay range for this role starts at $21.00 per hour and may go up to $22.00 per hour depending on the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skill level.

Candidates for this role should have at least one year of general food service experience, with two or more years preferred, showcasing their ability to contribute to the hospital’s high standards for food preparation and customer service. A high school diploma or GED is required, while an associate degree is preferred but not mandatory. The ability to communicate effectively in English, general knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation protocols, and teamwork skills are essential to succeed. Candidates with food handling certifications such as Serv-Safe or a Food Handlers Card will be highly regarded.

The role demands physical stamina as it requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items frequently, some weighing up to 50 pounds or more, as well as a variety of physical movements such as bending, climbing, and standing for prolonged periods.
