Job Description
The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, located in White Plains, New York, is a leading healthcare provider specializing in rehabilitation services and patient care. This institution is known for its commitment to delivering exceptional medical and therapeutic services to patients recovering from various injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions. As a well-established and respected hospital, Burke offers a supportive and inclusive work environment where every team member plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes and contributing to community health. The hospital maintains high standards of professionalism, diversity, and equal employment opportunities, fostering a culture where employees thrive both personally and professionally.
The role of a Food Service Worker at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is a dynamic and essential position within the Food Service Department. This is a day-shift, variable-schedule role requiring flexibility to work different days and shifts, involving regular hours typically scheduled around 7.5 hours per day. The hourly pay rate starts at $23.40, with actual compensation subject to adjustment based on factors such as shift differentials, education, experience, and other relevant criteria. The position does not offer a sign-on bonus.
In this role, the Food Service Worker is responsible for a wide range of kitchen and patient meal delivery services. The worker is expected to function efficiently across all kitchen and dishroom stations, including assembling patient trays, delivering meals, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. Attention to detail, polite and respectful interaction with patients, and adherence to hospital protocols for food handling and hygiene are critical. Responsibilities vary from handling tray line stations to managing patient dining cleaning duties, ensuring proper use of protective wear like gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods, and following the "Clean As You Go" practice to maintain operational cleanliness.
The Food Service Worker also supports the dietetic team and clinical dietitian by accurately assembling trays according to diet orders, performing service recovery tasks, and delivering requested items to patients efficiently. They play a vital part in patient care by verifying patient identity with two forms of ID when delivering trays and recording service recovery activities meticulously. The role also involves work in the dishroom where the worker loads, unloads, cleans, and sanitizes trays, china, and silverware, using equipment safely and maintaining a clean and orderly environment. This is a physically active job requiring standing for an entire shift, working in hot and noisy kitchen conditions, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population ranging from pediatric to geriatric individuals.
Overall, this position at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital offers an opportunity to be part of a dedicated healthcare team that prioritizes patient wellness and quality nutrition service. It demands flexibility, reliability, and a caring demeanor, with expectations for elevated hygiene and safety compliance throughout the food service and delivery processes. The hospital also encourages diversity and is committed to equal employment opportunity practices, reflecting its inclusive culture and respect for all employees and patients.
