Job Description
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is the primary state agency dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all people in Oregon. As a forward-thinking and inclusive organization, OHA works collaboratively across state sectors to promote health equity, eliminate health disparities, and provide high-quality services. The agency commits itself to fostering an environment characterized by mutual respect, inclusion, and dedication to serving Oregon’s diverse communities. OHA's work spans public health, health care regulation, community services, and mental health care, making it a vital institution within Oregon's state government.
OHA is currently seeking two Food Service Workers for the Oregon State Hospital at the Junction City Campus. These are full-time, permanent positions represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The Food Service Workers play a crucial role in supporting the hospital’s mission by ensuring that patients receive nutritious and properly prepared meals that meet their specific dietary needs. Employees in this role perform a variety of food service activities including setting up condiments, portioning food, preparing trays, serving meals, cleaning dining and serving areas, washing dishes, and stocking kitchenettes. These duties are performed in a high-volume dining setting within a state youth or adult institution.
The role requires attention to detail and strict adherence to dietary guidelines and portion control to meet the nutritional and medical requirements of clients, patients, and students. Food Service Workers also monitor prescribed dietary orders and maintain compliance with food safety standards. The position demands the ability to operate standard food service equipment safely and efficiently, as well as the capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The working conditions may require flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work during inclement weather.
The salary range for this position is $3,798 to $4,312 per month, and the role does not qualify for the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); however, candidates who do qualify for PERS will have an increased salary by 6.95%. Employment is contingent on passing a criminal records check that complies with OHA standards. The Oregon Health Authority values diversity and encourages applicants from all backgrounds to help build a stronger, more equitable Oregon.
In joining the Oregon Health Authority as a Food Service Worker, individuals become part of a team that prioritizes meaningful work that changes lives. Employees enjoy a balanced work environment that promotes respect and enthusiasm while offering competitive benefits such as low-cost medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, retirement security, and opportunities for professional development within state government. Candidates must have at least six months of customer or food service experience and must obtain a Food Handlers Certification or equivalent training within 30 days of appointment. Valid Oregon Driver's license and current safe hood handling certification are required.
This position is ideal for individuals passionate about food service in a healthcare setting and committed to upholding high standards of nutrition, safety, and service. The Oregon Health Authority invites you to apply and contribute to transforming healthcare through equitable food service operations at Oregon State Hospital's Junction City Campus.
