Job Description
The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is a leading non-profit Tribal health organization committed to improving the health and well-being of Alaska Native and American Indian people. Serving over 171,000 individuals statewide, ANTHC collaborates with Tribal health organizations within the Alaska Tribal Health System to provide an extensive array of healthcare services. These services include comprehensive medical care delivered through the Alaska Native Medical Center, focused wellness programs, disease research and prevention initiatives, rural healthcare provider training, and the construction of rural water and sanitation systems. Recognized as the largest and most comprehensive Tribal health organization in the United States, ANTHC is also the second-largest health employer in Alaska, with a workforce exceeding 3,100 employees dedicated to promoting health across the nation’s largest state.
ANTHC embodies a vision where Alaska Native people are the healthiest in the world. The Consortium fosters a supportive work environment that nurtures professional growth and community engagement. With a competitive benefits package designed to support employees' health, financial security, and work-life balance, ANTHC is committed to creating rewarding career opportunities. These benefits include medical insurance through the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, dental and vision cost-share insurance, retirement contributions with pre-tax and Roth options, paid time off accruals starting immediately, and a range of wellness and educational resources.
The role of Food Service Worker (FSW) within ANTHC’s Food and Nutrition Department is essential to supporting the organization's mission by ensuring high-quality food services for patients and guests. Under supervision, Food Service Workers perform diverse tasks related to food storage, preparation, and serving. This position offers opportunities to work collaboratively within a team to provide positive dining experiences in patient services and retail settings. Responsibilities range from assisting with food setup, serving, restocking, packaging goods for sale, interacting with guests in a courteous and welcoming manner, to cashier duties and operating dishwashing equipment. Maintaining a clean and safe workspace is a vital component of the job, alongside compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
The Food Service Worker position has multiple levels—FSW I, FSW II, and FSW III—allowing for career progression through gaining experience and demonstrating leadership. FSW II workers show proficiency in assigned areas with some oversight responsibilities, while FSW III employees take on supervisory roles, including staff training, compliance supervision, and mentoring less experienced workers. The position may require working varied schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, based on business needs.
Overall, the Food Service Worker role at ANTHC is a vital contribution to the health and satisfaction of the community they serve. The position offers a supportive and dynamic environment where individuals passionate about food service and community health can thrive, grow, and make a meaningful impact.
