Job Description

The hiring organization operates well-established food service facilities located across three different sites in South Carolina: YLA in Pickens, Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, and Camp Long in Aiken. These facilities are dedicated to providing quality food service while maintaining high health and safety standards as mandated by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). The team at these locations works collaboratively to meet the culinary and dietary needs of their diverse clientele while upholding rigorous cleanliness and food storage protocols. This organization emphasizes adherence to state regulations and operational excellence within their kitchens, ensuring that every meal prepared is safe, nutritious, and enjoyable for those served.

The role of Food Service Assistant is integral to the smooth functioning of the kitchen environment. Working directly under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and alongside Food Service II workers, this position supports various kitchen activities primarily focused on food preparation and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation. The assistant will be responsible for precise food preparation tasks such as weighing, blending, and mixing ingredients according to prescribed recipes, as well as cutting, slicing, and chopping food items efficiently and accurately.

Additionally, a significant portion of the role involves cleaning duties. This includes preparing dishes for commercial-grade dishwashing, hand washing pots and pans, and ensuring that all kitchen equipment is cleaned thoroughly and stored properly after use. Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen is critical to operational success and compliance with strict health standards. The Food Service Assistant will also oversee food storage, ensuring all items are stored in line with DHEC guidelines, preventing contamination, spoilage, and waste.

This position is dynamic and may include additional responsibilities assigned by the kitchen manager to support the overall food service operations. It requires a person who is attentive, reliable, and capable of working in a busy kitchen environment while adhering to safety and quality standards. The work environment is typically fast-paced and requires good teamwork, organizational skills, and a willingness to perform a variety of duties necessary to maintain an efficient kitchen.

Overall, this opportunity is suited for individuals keen to gain or build experience in food service operations within institutional or camp settings. The work available at the three locations in South Carolina offers valuable hands-on experience in food preparation and kitchen maintenance following regulatory standards, making it ideal for candidates motivated to develop a career in culinary support or food service management.
