Job Description

Chartwells K12, a division of Compass Group, is a leading foodservice provider committed to improving the dining experience in school environments. With a presence in over 4,300 schools serving more than 16,000 associates nationwide, Chartwells K12 has built a reputation based on decades of expertise in food service, nutrition, education, and operational excellence. Their mission is to ensure that students leave the cafeteria happier and healthier than when they arrived, by serving nutritious meals that children enjoy and developing custom dining programs tailored to each school’s unique needs. Chartwells K12 combines culinary innovation, wellness, sustainability, and nutrition expertise to deliver quality foodservice solutions that support student success and well-being.

This job opening is for a Food Service Worker position located in the Lakeland Joint School District at 7748 West Main Street, Rathdrum, ID. The role offers both full-time and part-time schedules, primarily during weekdays, with specific hours discussed during the interview process. The pay rate for this position is $14.00 per hour, and there is an internal employee referral bonus available. Applications are accepted online only, with additional options to apply via text messaging for easier access.

As a Food Service Worker at Chartwells K12, the successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing, presenting, and serving food within an educational setting. Responsibilities include food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables; weighing and measuring ingredients according to recipes; transporting food safely between workstations, stoves, and refrigerators; and properly storing food following strict food safety procedures including proper wrapping, dating, and rotation. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitization of work areas, equipment, and utensils is essential to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.

The Food Service Worker also supports operational efficiency by distributing supplies, utensils, and portable equipment needed for meal service. They must adhere to approved recipes and production standards to guarantee proper food quality, serving temperatures, and portion sizes. Serving customers in a friendly, efficient manner is a key aspect of the role, requiring excellent customer service skills and the ability to address and resolve customer concerns or escalate issues to supervisors as needed.

Compliance with all company service standards as well as inventory and cash control procedures is mandatory. Additionally, the worker must adhere to sanitation and safety requirements rigorously to maintain a safe environment for both staff and students. Other duties will be assigned as necessary, depending on business needs.

Chartwells K12 offers a comprehensive benefits package to both full and part-time employees. Benefits include retirement plans, associate shopping programs, health and wellness initiatives, discount marketplaces, identity theft protection, pet insurance, and various voluntary benefits such as critical illness insurance, accident insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, legal services, and auto and home insurance options. Full-time employees also receive medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, and flexible spending accounts. Paid and unpaid time off benefits are provided in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.

It is important to note that because this position operates within an educational facility, there may be periods such as winter and summer breaks during which work might be reduced or suspended, leading to temporary unpaid layoffs. However, depending on operational requirements, employees might be asked to work year-round or at different locations during break times. Diversity of thought and inclusion are core values at Compass Group, fostering a welcoming and equitable environment for all employees regardless of background or identity.

If you are seeking a role that combines meaningful service, a supportive work environment, and opportunities for growth in the foodservice industry, consider joining Chartwells K12 as a Food Service Worker.
