Serves as Food Service Foreman, planning, scheduling and directing food service operations for an assigned hospital or inpatient unit. The foreman is responsible for coordinating with cooks and dietitians to resolve meal-related issues, utilizing computerized production sheets for accurate meal preparation and item tracking. They oversee employee scheduling, including vacation assignments for food service workers, and uphold regulatory compliance regarding patient and employee safety. The position demands a strategic approach to improve workflow efficiency, sanitation, and infection control within a controlled hospital environment. The role requires working rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the continuous nature of healthcare food services. It is a safety-sensitive position with multiple assessments including criminal background, traffic checks where applicable, and rigorous drug and alcohol testing to maintain a safe and secure workplace. Additionally, this role involves a pre-employment physical and a residency preference policy requiring applicants to reside in the District of Columbia for a set period if claiming preference points. Job Requirements
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have one year of specialized experience
- Must hold current valid ServSafe Certification
- Must have Food Safety Manager’s License at time of application
- Experience in leading or supervising inpatient food service operations
- Knowledge of infection control, sanitation and kitchen equipment care
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Willingness to undergo criminal background check and drug/alcohol testing
- Must pass pre-employment physical
- Must meet District of Columbia residency requirements if claiming preference points
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
- Experience leading or supervising in an inpatient food service environment
- Knowledge of cleanliness, infection control, sanitation, and food service equipment care
- Current valid ServSafe Certification
- Food Safety Manager’s License at time of application
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to follow safety-sensitive protocols as required by D.C. Personnel Regulations
Job Duties
- Plan, schedule and direct food service operations
- Assure adherence to unit rules and regulations concerning safety and conduct
- Prepare assignment and vacation schedules for food service workers
- Ensure timely delivery of meals and menu item scheduling
- Participate in charting meal items using computerized production sheets
- Advise and consult with cooks and dietitians on meal-related issues
- Evaluate and improve work methods and expedite work accomplishments
