Job Description

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) School Lunch Program Division located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is inviting applications for the position of Food Service Worker. DoDEA is a federal agency dedicated to providing education and related services to the children of military and civilian personnel. The School Lunch Program Division specifically focuses on delivering quality meal services that support the nutritional needs of students in these communities. This role is classified under the Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) pay schedule, which means it operates with a unique pay structure compared to standard federal wages. The employment type offered for this position is intermittent, providing flexible scheduling with a workweek ranging from zero to 40 hours. Candidates are not eligible for benefits under this employment type. The salary range for this role is $18.13 to $21.15 per hour, reflecting competitive pay within the federal wage system.

As a Food Service Worker with DoDEA’s School Lunch Program Division, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the preparation, presentation, and serving of light food items to patrons. This role involves working primarily behind the counter where you will set up and replenish food and drink items, including specialty items and condiments, for a food service or snack bar operation. The work setting includes unique environments like beachside resort properties where food service is delivered directly from service carts. Your responsibilities will also encompass expeditor duties, ensuring the timely delivery of food to customers or the service buffet area. Additionally, maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall orderliness of the food service area is an integral part of this position. Given the intermittent nature of the job, flexibility and the ability to efficiently perform under varying schedules are important. Candidates interested in this position should be comfortable working with minimal supervision and possess foundational skills in food preparation, sanitation, and customer service. Job Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position
  • A one-year probationary period may be required
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work without more than normal supervision
  • Ability to keep things neat, clean, and in order
  • Possess basic food preparation and handling techniques
  • Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation principles
  • Ability to use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment
  • Must have knowledge of basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals in order to take orders and provide change and determine the number of portions required

Job Duties

  • Serve as a food service provider helping in the preparation, presentation and the serving or delivery of light food items offered for sale to patrons
  • Work behind the counter and set up and replenish food and hot/cold drink and specialty items and associated condiments for a food service/snack bar operation
  • Serve light food items requiring little or no preparation time to patrons from a service cart at a beach side resort property location
  • Perform expeditor duties by delivering food to customers or bringing out food to a service buffet area
  • Perform a variety of duties incident to the maintenance, cleanliness, and sanitation of the area to which assigned
