Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital is a not-for-profit, nationally accredited rehabilitation hospital located in Michigan, renowned for its comprehensive rehabilitation services for both children and adults. Serving thousands of patients annually, it provides specialized inpatient, outpatient, sub-acute rehabilitation, orthotics and prosthetics, as well as home and community programs. The hospital distinguishes itself with a unique focus on rehabilitation, supported by a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and therapists who are committed to helping patients achieve superior clinical outcomes. Its expansive network ensures that patients across the system have access to Mary Free Bed's esteemed standard of care. With a dynamic culture built over more than a century, Mary Free Bed embraces values such as trust, family culture, clinical variety, and a strong focus on patient-centered care. This positive environment fosters teamwork, respect, and innovation within a supportive and stable organization, making it a sought-after employer in the healthcare sector.

The Food Service Worker position offers an excellent opportunity to join the Nutrition Services Department at Mary Free Bed in an evening shift capacity. Reporting directly to the Nutrition Supervisor, this non-exempt role plays a critical function in delivering quality nutrition and food service to patients, visitors, and staff. The essential duties include preparation, presentation, and serving of food while adhering to all required sanitation, safety, and health regulations. The worker is responsible for washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables, weighing and measuring ingredients, and storing food safely with proper labeling and rotation. Maintaining cleanliness of all work areas, equipment, and utensils to meet stringent sanitary standards is a key element of the role. This role demands carrying food trays and supplies safely, consistently serving customers with friendliness and efficiency, handling customer concerns professionally, and ensuring compliance with company standards and safety procedures.

Beyond food preparation and service, the Food Service Worker is expected to contribute positively to the overall team dynamic by promoting open communication and assisting in inventory and cash control processes. This role emphasizes excellent customer service skills combined with good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow both written and oral instructions. Mary Free Bed values diversity and inclusivity, expecting all employees to treat everyone with dignity, foster opportunities for growth, and contribute to a welcoming environment to all patients and colleagues regardless of background or identity.

This position is suitable for individuals seeking a meaningful role within the healthcare nutrition sector. Mary Free Bed encourages applicants who are dedicated to high standards of safety, quality, and patient satisfaction. Employees receive ongoing support in quality improvement efforts, including identifying service challenges and engaging in strategies to enhance patient and family experiences. The environment involves a physical component requiring frequent movement around work locations and handling of food items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally, while most tasks involve standing and servicing duties for extended periods.

Mary Free Bed is committed to providing accommodations consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for qualified applicants or employees as needed, ensuring fair employment opportunities for all. This is a fulfilling role for those passionate about contributing directly to patient care through exceptional food service in a professional and compassionate setting.
