Job Description

Carolina Skies Club located at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, is a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) facility dedicated to providing Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) services for Air Force and Space Force personnel. As part of the broader Department of Defense community, this club plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for service members and their families by offering diverse food and beverage services within a relaxed, community-focused environment. The Carolina Skies Club is committed to delivering high-quality dining experiences, fostering camaraderie among personnel, and supporting the welfare mission of the Air Force through its varied amenities and events geared toward service member enrichment and leisure.

The current job opening is for a Food Service Worker position at the Carolina Skies Club. This role is classified as a Non-appropriated Fund position, which means it is funded through revenue generated by MWR activities rather than federal appropriations. The Food Service Worker has an essential role in the day-to-day operation of the club’s food service offerings. This includes setup, serving, cleaning, and cash handling duties in the club’s cafeteria and dining areas. The position requires an individual who can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation, and provide courteous service to patrons. The worker will ensure that food lines, steam tables, and dining tables are properly arranged and replenished, helping to create a positive dining experience.

Beyond food preparation and service, the job involves operating dishwashers, performing preventive maintenance and cleaning, and tackling heavy cleaning tasks such as washing floors, walls, and kitchen equipment exhaust hoods. The role also requires some physical stamina to lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds and frequent periods of standing, walking, stooping, and bending. The position requires cash register operation proficiency for sales transactions, including handling cash and credit payments. At the end of each shift, the worker will complete cashier reports and ensure all receipts and supporting documents are turned over to supervisors. The candidate must be ready to undergo a background investigation and meet federal employment standards, including completion of a Food Handler's Certificate or equivalent food safety training.

This job is open to all applicants who meet the qualifications, including military spouses, veterans, and individuals with preference eligibilities under various federal hiring categories. The hiring process emphasizes integrity, reliability, and attention to detail, with candidates expected to demonstrate competency in sanitation standards and the ability to follow instructions clearly. While no specific education substitutions are available, relevant experience in food service and sanitation is highly valued. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to contribute to an important community-oriented facility within the Department of Defense, offering a stable work environment and the chance to be part of a team dedicated to supporting military members' morale and welfare.
