Job Description
Punahou School is a prestigious private educational institution located in Honolulu, Hawaii, known for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development. Established over a century ago, Punahou has grown to serve a diverse community of over 3,600 students and 600 faculty and staff members. The school’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment extends beyond the classroom into areas such as food services, which play a pivotal role in maintaining the health and well-being of its community.
Punahou’s Food Services Department manages the intricate logistics of feeding thousands daily through various dining rooms and a snack bar, ensuring a variety of options that cater to the nutritional needs and preferences of students, faculty, and staff. The department emphasizes offering healthy, fresh, and sustainable food choices. Their commitment includes prioritizing fresh fruits and vegetables, low-fat and high-protein meats, locally sourced produce and meats, and minimizing processed foods. Notably, their operations exclude artificial trans fats, high fructose corn syrups, and deep-fat fried foods, reflecting their progressive approach towards health and sustainability.
The school is actively seeking to hire a Full Time Regular Food Service Worker to join its Cafeteria team. This vital role supports the daily food service operations by preparing, serving, and storing food items for all school community members. The Food Service Worker plays a critical part in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and efficient food service environment. In addition to food handling, this position involves routine cashiering duties, including operating the school’s computerized point of sale (POS) system.
Beyond the operational tasks, the Food Service Worker must demonstrate reliability, as punctual and consistent attendance is a key factor for ensuring smooth operations, adequate staffing, and maintaining high employee morale. Working Monday through Friday from early morning to mid-afternoon, this role offers a stable 10.5-month work year with a competitive starting hourly wage of $17.00, which is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate will either have prior food service experience or be eager to gain new skills in this dynamic setting. Additional expectations include obtaining ServSafe Certification within the first six months of employment, which underscores the emphasis on food safety and professional standards in service delivery. Working at Punahou is not only a job but an opportunity to contribute to an esteemed institution’s long-standing tradition of caring for its community through thoughtful food service practices.
Joining the Cafeteria team at Punahou means becoming part of a dedicated group that values health, sustainability, and quality service. The position offers not just the chance to engage in meaningful daily interactions and contribute to the welfare of students and faculty but also a supportive working environment with a comprehensive total rewards program inclusive of competitive pay and benefits. This role blends practical food service skills with the opportunity to grow professionally within one of Hawaii's most respected educational communities.
