The role of a Food Service Worker at Baptist Health is an essential component of the patient care experience, focusing on preparing, assembling, and delivering meals in adherence to the highest standards of food safety, infection control, quality, and service. This position also includes a variety of duties such as delivering stock supplies to patient floor kitchens, serving guests while maintaining excellent customer relations, replenishing used foods and supplies, completing sanitation duties, and performing dishroom responsibilities. Additionally, the Food Service Worker handles food sales transactions in the cafeteria and assists in setting up and serving meals for corporate retail, catering functions, and specialized dining areas such as the Doctors Dining Room.

This role is critical in ensuring the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of patients and guests and requires the ability to perform tasks independently while being cross-trained in multiple food service functions. The position also plays a supporting role in training new employees, reinforcing a team-oriented approach where sharing knowledge and skills is valued. The estimated pay range for this position is $16.00 to $19.49 per hour, based on experience.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • food safety certification within 90 days of job entry
  • at least 2 years of food and nutrition experience highly preferred
  • excellent customer service skills
  • proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work independently and follow infection control protocols

Job Duties

  • Prepare, assemble, and deliver patient meals in accordance with quality, service, infection control, and food safety standards
  • deliver stock supplies to patient floor kitchens
  • serve guests while maintaining positive customer and guest relations
  • appropriately replenish used foods and supplies
  • complete sanitation duties
  • perform dish room duties daily as assigned
  • collect payments for guest trays and handle food sales transactions in the cafeteria
  • set up and serve meals for corporate retail, catering, Doctors Dining Room, and other dining outlets
  • decorate buffet and reception tables as assigned
  • support training of other food service workers
  • ensure compliance with food safety and infection control standards
