Job Description

The Langley Air Force Base, located in Virginia, is a prominent military installation that supports the United States Air Force and Space Force operations. Among its many facilities, Langley hosts a variety of amenities aimed at enhancing the morale and welfare of its personnel and visitors. One such facility is the coffee kiosks stationed within the Langley Hospital. These coffee kiosks serve as convenient spots offering a variety of hot and cold beverages along with simple food items to hospital staff, visitors, and military personnel. The Langley Air Force Base community emphasizes quality service, cleanliness, and efficiency to meet the needs of its diverse patrons in a dynamic environment.

This job opening is for a position at these coffee kiosks, where the employee will be responsible for a range of food preparation and food service tasks. This is an intermittent, permanent position that offers flexible scheduling, ranging from zero to forty hours per week. The hourly pay rate is fixed at $18.21, reflecting the competitive compensation for a food service working role within a federal installation. The role is designed for someone committed to delivering high-quality customer service in a fast-paced, sometimes high-temperature work environment. The employee will be expected to prepare beverages such as cappuccinos, lattes, brewed coffee, espresso, hot chocolate, and frappes by selecting properly pre-measured ingredients. Along with beverages, the role involves serving simple menu items such as sodas, juices, prepackaged pastries, bagels, muffins, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, pizzas, and other quick-serve foods.

The scope of this role also includes handling cash transactions—with responsibilities for receiving payment, operating the cash register, and returning the correct change to customers. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within the kiosk area is crucial. Duties include setting up the work area, cleaning tables, replenishing condiment supplies, operating dishwashers, and performing routine maintenance to ensure hygiene standards are constantly met. The employee must manage loading and unloading food deliveries, assist with inventory tracking, and prepare financial documentation related to cash accountability. Additional physical duties involve heavy cleaning tasks such as scrubbing floors, walls, exhaust hoods, and refrigeration units.

Due to the nature of the work and the physical demands, the position requires someone who can frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds, stand or walk continuously, and perform repetitive motions such as stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. The working environment includes exposure to high heat and humidity generated from cooking and dishwashing activities, a typically noisy atmosphere, and potential hazards like wet floors and hot surfaces. The employee must be prepared to work during evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations to provide continuous service coverage.

This food service working role is pivotal to the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) support activities at Langley Air Force Base, providing essential services that contribute to the comfort and satisfaction of the base community. Applicants must pass a background check, successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination, and obtain or complete food handler training. The position encourages candidates who are committed to improving federal government efficiency and dedicated to upholding the values of the American republic and the United States Constitution.

Overall, this job provides an opportunity to serve a vital function within a respected federal facility while enjoying the benefits of competitive wages and a dynamic work environment. The role also promotes professional growth through varied duties that combine food service skills with essential operational responsibilities in a military community setting. The Langley Air Force Base coffee kiosks offer an ideal employment option for individuals who enjoy a fast-paced environment and who take pride in delivering excellent customer service under physically demanding conditions.
