Job Description

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is a vital organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for Marines, their families, and the broader Marine Corps Community. This particular opportunity is located at Marine Corps Base Hawaii - Camp Smith Aloha Kitchen and is for the position of Food Service Worker NA-02. This role is crucial to the operations of the Aloha Kitchen, serving as a frontline provider of food services. Working as a Food Service Worker at MCCS requires a blend of practical skills and personal qualities. The role involves setting up food service counters and dining arrangements, serving food cafeteria-style or family-style, preparing various food items including salads and sandwiches, and maintaining cleanliness and organization within the dining and kitchen areas. The worker is also responsible for operating equipment such as dishwashers and coffee urns, handling deliveries, and occasionally managing the cash register.

The position demands physical endurance as it includes standing and walking for long periods, lifting and moving objects, and working in environments that can be warm and noisy. Additionally, the role requires keen attention to detail to serve uniform portions, adhere to sanitation protocols to prevent contamination, and maintain safety standards to avoid workplace hazards. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior experience in food service or related field beneficial
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • physical capacity to lift and carry up to 45 pounds

Job Duties

  • Set up food service counters, steam tables, and dining room tables with hot and cold foods
  • serve food cafeteria-style to diners
  • serve tables family-style by placing and refilling dishes
  • make coffee in large urns and specialty coffee drinks using barista equipment
  • prepare fruit and vegetable salads
  • serve food in standard portions
  • make cold or hot sandwiches
  • pack box lunches
  • maintain and clean dishwashers
  • ensure dining area cleanliness
  • unload food deliveries and move heavy garbage cans
  • operate cash register and manage change fund
  • stock merchandise refrigerator and freezers
  • provide world class customer service emphasizing courtesy
  • assist customers and communicate positively
  • solve problems quickly and alert supervisors when necessary
  • adhere to safety regulations and standards
  • report workplace hazards and injuries
