The Food Service Team Member role within Banner Health's Culinary and Nutrition Department is a vital position focused on ensuring high standards in food preparation, sanitation, and customer service in a healthcare setting. The role involves a range of responsibilities encompassing cleaning, food preparation, patient trayline operations, and retail café duties. The Food Service Team Member is entrusted with preparing assigned foods and nourishments with accuracy and care, following established procedures to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and presentation standards. Cleaning and sanitizing are critical components of the job, including responsibility for dishes, flatware, trays, cooking utensils, designated equipment, and kitchen areas. This role also involves monitoring dish machine temperatures and proper waste disposal to sustain a hygienic environment. Maintaining par levels for food and supplies through restocking and proactive inventory management is expected, alongside regular checks of expiration dates to minimize waste and ensure safety.
Delivery of meals, nourishments, late trays, and tube feedings to various patient units forms an essential part of this role, demanding a customer-service-oriented mindset when interacting with patients, families, and hospital staff. Additional duties may include assisting with catering or special event services and handling transactions at cash registers if applicable, encompassing retail café operations. The position requires the ability to follow detailed instructions, adhere to safety protocols for handling cleaning chemicals, and work effectively under regular supervision while prioritizing speed, accuracy, and sanitation standards.
Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service. Certification in food handling is mandatory, with a required food handler's card to be obtained within 30 days of hire for certain team members. Job Duties
- Set up work station and prepare assigned foods and nourishments following procedures and portion control
- Clean and sanitize dishes, flatware, trays, cups, glasses, cooking utensils, equipment, and kitchen areas
- Maintain par levels of foods and supplies, order and restock items, rotate food stocks, and check expiration dates
- Check and record food and equipment temperatures, report discrepancies to supervisor
- Deliver meals, nourishments, late trays, and tube feedings to patient units, return excess nourishments
- Assist in catering or special event service
- Handle transactions at cash register and/or retail café
