Harborview Medical Center is a renowned comprehensive healthcare facility located in the Pacific Northwest, owned by King County and operated by UW Medicine. The Nutrition and Food Services department at Harborview plays a critical role in supporting UW Medicine's mission by delivering compassionate, evidence-based care, along with exceptional customer service and nutritious, fresh food to patients, families, and the greater community. The Food Service Worker position is a part-time role with shifts during the evening hours from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm or 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm across five variable days per week. The role involves the preparation and serving of food and beverages in compliance with medically prescribed diet orders, specifically accommodating medically vulnerable populations where attention to food allergens and cross-contamination is paramount. The worker also performs essential duties such as cleaning and sanitizing food equipment, adhering to strict infection control and food safety policies, and maintaining stock and supplies using the First In First Out (FIFO) method to minimize waste. This position ensures that patients receive safe, nutritious meals tailored to their medical needs with utmost care and professionalism.

Job Requirements
- Possession of or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment
- One year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage or equivalent education or experience
- Ability to work variable evening shifts
- Capacity to transport food, supplies, and equipment
- Must comply with infection control and food safety policies
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for extended periods
- Willingness to work in a healthcare environment with medically vulnerable populations
Job Qualifications
- Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment
- One year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage or equivalent education or experience
- Knowledge of medically prescribed diets and nutritional needs preferred
- Ability to adhere to strict food safety and sanitation standards
- Experience in a healthcare food service environment preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to infection control policies
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Job Duties
- Prepare and serve food and beverages compliant with medically prescribed diet orders including handling food allergens and preventing cross-contamination
- Perform clean-up and sanitization activities for food equipment
- Retrieve and process food and food preparation serving equipment adhering to infection prevention protocols
- Transport food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchen and dining areas
- Serve food individually or from steam tables and carts, load and clear steam tables and carts
- Clean and sanitize equipment and other surfaces
- Stock work areas including nursing unit pantries, applying First In First Out methods to minimize waste
- Operate standard kitchen appliances and equipment such as coffee makers, toasters, dishwashers, and mixers
- Follow department policies and procedures for food safety and sanitation
- Comply with infection control policy and hand washing procedures
- Perform other work as required
