Job Description
The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) operates under the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), an established organization committed to providing comprehensive services and support to Marines, Sailors, and their families. MCCS is renowned for its dedication to fostering meaningful connections and offering opportunities for career development through various programs and initiatives. The organization supports military personnel and their families by offering access to facilities such as child development centers, gyms, theaters, bowling alleys, pools, golf courses, auto skill centers, and outdoor recreational activities. MCCS also provides professional training opportunities designed to enhance employee skills and career growth prospects. Employment with MCCS conveys the benefit of serving a mission that honors and supports those who serve the country, coupled with a workplace culture that values service, respect, and community engagement.
This position is located within the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) at various locations, emphasizing flexibility and adaptability in workplace assignment. The role is classified as a non-appropriated fund position, which supports the operational needs of DoWEA and MCCS. The primary responsibility of the position involves food service in a cafeteria-style environment, catering to Marines, Sailors, and their families. The position may require the operation of a cash register and responsibility for handling cash transactions with individual change funds. Physical tasks such as lifting and carrying objects up to 45 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance are part of the job requirements, reflecting the active and hands-on nature of the role. The position may involve unloading food deliveries and managing waste through the movement of large garbage bins. Assignments can occur at any school cafeteria or kitchen location, either on a temporary or permanent basis depending on operational requirements. Additional related duties will be performed as necessary to ensure smooth and efficient food service operations.
The perfect candidate will demonstrate the ability to perform multiple sequential tasks, such as setting up food service counters, steam tables, dining tables, and side service stands with a variety of foods including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages. This role requires concentration to provide uniform individual portions accurately, even when serving multiple patrons requesting different items simultaneously. Applicants should be proficient in simple arithmetic and capable of following written instructions to maintain consistency and quality in the service offerings. This position offers chances for professional training and skill-building within a dynamic and mission-driven environment. MCCS places a strong emphasis on equal opportunity employment and ensures a workplace free from discrimination, providing reasonable accommodations where necessary. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required background checks and adherence to federal policies, including drug-free workplace regulations. MCCS encourages qualified veterans, persons with disabilities, and military spouses to apply, highlighting its commitment to diversity and inclusion within its workforce.
