Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is an esteemed program office within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), dedicated to providing essential merchandise and services to millions of Veterans, their families, caregivers, and VA employees enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare system. VCS operates a variety of cafes and retail markets located within VA Medical Centers across the country, including the Columbia, SC VA Medical Center. We are currently seeking part-time Food Service Workers to join our team at the Columbia, SC VA Medical Center. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are passionate about providing exceptional service to America’s heroes. The Food Service Worker position involves preparing an assortment of food and beverages, such as coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, smoothies, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, and burritos. Employees in this role must maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the workplace, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations. Additionally, the position requires proper handling and storage of food to preserve freshness and prevent spoilage. This role also entails exposure to various temperature conditions, including hot and cold environments, making physical stamina an essential attribute. Team members at VCS are expected to adhere closely to approved procedures and supervisory instructions to guarantee quality and customer satisfaction. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support operations.

Job Duties
- Prepares a variety of beverages including coffee latte cappuccino and smoothies
- Prepares and assembles an assortment of food items including breakfast sandwiches lunch sandwiches wraps pancakes burritos and more
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of workplace equipment utensils in compliance with health and safety standards
- Properly stores food to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage
- Prepares food according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions following approved procedures
- Works in varying temperature conditions including hot and cold environments
- Performs other duties as assigned
