Job Description

Pine Island School Food Service is an integral part of the Pine Island School District, committed to providing nutritious, safe, and quality meals to students and staff throughout the academic year. As a key department within the school district, the Food Service team plays a critical role in ensuring that all meals meet current nutritional standards and comply with state and federal food safety regulations. The department is overseen by the Food Service Director and focuses on both the quality of food provided and exceptional customer service, promoting a healthy and welcoming environment for all students and school personnel. The Pine Island School Food Service program is dedicated to continuous improvement, staff training, and operational excellence to support the educational mission of the district.

The Food Service Worker position is designed for individuals passionate about food safety, sanitation, and serving the school community with care and professionalism. Starting with the 2026-27 school year, this role will be essential in supporting daily kitchen operations, including dishwashing, food preparation, and serving all menu items as required. The worker will be responsible not only for maintaining cleanliness and adhering to food handling procedures but also for ensuring foods are properly stored, labeled, and rotated to comply with rigorous standards. This position requires someone who can take direction from supervisors, work collaboratively with kitchen staff, and engage positively with students and staff.

The role entails a variety of critical responsibilities, such as monitoring that all food served meets nutritional standards, including accommodations for children with special diets. The Food Service Worker will assist in menu recommendations that encourage consumption and satisfaction among customers while upholding the highest cooking and service standards. Sanitation safety is paramount; the worker will contribute to protecting the health and wellbeing of the school community through diligent maintenance of cleanliness, response to food recalls, and strict adherence to food safety practices from receiving to preparation.

In addition to operational tasks, the Food Service Worker will play a leadership role in promoting quality food production control and may assist with training fellow staff members. Presentation and service quality are prioritized to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The position promotes ethical integrity, a commitment to the goals and vision of the school district, and effective communication with customers served.

Compensation for this role ranges from $15.22 to $18.22 per hour based on experience. The Pine Island School Food Service offers comprehensive benefits, including medical insurance contributions, paid time off, life insurance, state retirement contributions, and optional voluntary benefits such as vision, dental, and 403b retirement savings plan participation.
