Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) is a specialized pediatric hospital dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services to children and their families. As a part of the hospital's Food & Nutrition Services department, the Food Service Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the daily operations of the kitchen, dining, and dish room areas. This part-time position requires working approximately 2-3 shifts per week with flexibility to cover rotating shifts including early morning (6AM-2PM), late morning to evening (11:30AM-7:30PM), weekends, and holidays. Job Qualifications

  • Current City of Norfolk food handling training required at time of hire
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Prior food service experience preferred
  • Excellent time management skills to complete work in a timely manner, able to shift priorities, able to work independently, able to work in a team setting and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Job Duties

  • Maintains a courteous, professional relationship with all organizational staff, patients, and families, and guests
  • Sets up and dismantle assigned workstation(s): hot food, cold food area, salad bar, and coffee station to guarantee smooth operations
  • Stocks and dismantles condiment areas, replenishes paper and china supplies, fills beverage machines, and brews coffee
  • Sets up, operates, cleans, and dismantles dish machine
  • Maintains merchandising in-service areas and replenishes vending machines
  • Stores food in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety, storage, and rotation procedures
  • Performs continuous cleanup of work areas, equipment, and utensils
