The Food Service Worker role at RWJ Rahway is a vital position within the Dietary-Management Department, working part-time during day shifts with a compensation rate of $17.64 per hour. This position plays a fundamental part in the facility’s commitment to patient care by ensuring the preparation and delivery of nutritious, high-quality food to patients, visitors, and staff in alignment with HACCP food safety standards. The Food Service Worker will operate a variety of equipment safely and efficiently, including reach-in refrigerators, juice machines, assembly lines, and cooking appliances. This role requires adherence to proper food portioning, temperature regulations, and inventory management (including first in, first out storage procedures) to maintain the quality and safety of all meal items.

In addition to preparing and serving food, the Food Service Worker must accurately identify patients using hospital wristbands for tray delivery and collection, ensuring a seamless and hygienic food service experience. This role emphasizes teamwork, attention to detail, and compliance with safety protocols, including completing mandatory education and annual safety physical and food in-service trainings. Job Duties

  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to operate safely and how to maintain/clean the following equipment: reach in refrigerator, juice machine, assembly line, work stations, blender, and coffee machine
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper portions and serving utensils for all tray line items
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper temperature ranges, how to maintain proper temperatures for all items and procedures for items outside acceptable ranges
  • Locate and stock assembly line with needed items from production areas/walk-in cold storage
  • Store food before and after the meal
  • Prepare garnishes for assembly line
  • Portion desserts, soups, and cereals for assembly line
  • Pre-prep desserts for following day
  • Know first in first out storage procedures
  • Able to read patient name and room location and correctly identify patient for tray delivery by use of hospital wristband identification
  • Deliver and pick up trays from patient’s rooms
  • Must complete annual safety physical and food in-service
