Job Description
Located in White Plains, New York, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is a well-established healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional rehabilitation services to patients recovering from various illnesses and injuries. As a respected institution within the medical community, the hospital offers comprehensive care through a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for every patient. With state-of-the-art facilities and a committed team of professionals, the hospital continuously strives to deliver compassionate and effective rehabilitation treatments.
This opportunity is for a Food Service Worker position within the Food Service Department at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. The role operates on the day shift, with scheduled hours from 11 AM to 7 PM, totaling 7.5 hours per day. The work days vary on a rotating schedule, including every other weekend, making it essential for the candidate to have flexibility in their availability. The pay rate begins at $22.68 per hour and may be subject to adjustments based on factors such as shift differentials and relevant experience.
As a Food Service Worker, the selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the hospital's kitchen and dish room. Responsibilities include preparing and assembling patient trays accurately according to dietary orders, delivering meals efficiently and courteously to patients, and ensuring all food service areas and equipment are maintained clean and safe. This position requires strict adherence to food safety and sanitary guidelines, including the use of gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods and patient silverware.
This dynamic role involves rotating through various tray line stations, such as starter, milk, juice/salad, coffee, server, and runner, demanding versatility and attention to detail. The worker will also be responsible for managing patient trays by reading tray tickets carefully, performing service recovery tasks when trays have been delivered, and preparing missing or requested food items following prescribed diets. Additionally, the role encompasses duties within the dish room, including loading and unloading dishwashing machines, cleaning and sanitizing trays, china, and silverware, and monitoring equipment operation to report any irregularities promptly.
Effective communication skills are vital as the Food Service Worker interacts with patients from diverse age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, young adult, and geriatric individuals. The position demands physical endurance, as it involves standing for the entire shift and working in environments that may be hot, humid, and noisy. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the Chief Clinical Dietitian, Food Service Directors, and the entire kitchen staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is an equal employment opportunity employer and values diversity in the workplace. The hospital's commitment extends to recruiting, hiring, and promoting associates without discrimination based on any protected characteristics. This role presents an excellent chance for individuals seeking to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare setting while gaining experience in food service within a hospital environment.
