Job Description

This position is a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) role assigned to the Child Development Center located on Patrick Space Force Base (SFB), Florida. The Child Development Center is a vital establishment dedicated to providing high-quality child care services for military and civilian families stationed at Patrick SFB. The center emphasizes a safe, nurturing, and educational environment, designed to support the development and well-being of children from infancy through school-age. This center operates under federal guidelines and standards to ensure the highest compliance with childcare and safety regulations.

The role offered is regular part-time, with a flexible schedule ranging from 20 to 40 hours per week. This employment type allows individuals seeking part-time opportunities to contribute meaningfully while balancing other life commitments. The position includes valuable benefits such as health and life insurance, participation in a 401(k) retirement plan, and other retirement benefits. These benefits highlight the organization's commitment to employee welfare and provide substantial support for long-term financial security and health.

The position primarily involves tasks related to child care and development support, sanitary maintenance, and use of simple hand tools and machines. Employees must be capable of following simple oral instructions, possess skills in executing multi-step tasks, and apply judgment in task sequencing. Knowledge of sanitation standards for handling and serving food, as well as cleaning equipment and workspace, is essential to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and staff alike.

Physical fitness is a key component of the role, requiring the employee to frequently lift or move objects up to 40 pounds and maintain physical activity throughout the work period, including continuous standing and walking, as well as frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. This reflects the dynamic and hands-on nature of the job, which is critical in a childcare setting where caregivers must be actively involved and responsive.

Applicants for this position come from diverse backgrounds, as the job is open to everyone. However, preferences and priority considerations are given to specific groups including Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Outside Applicant Veteran, Spouse/Widow/Parent of Veteran, and Transition Hiring Preference. Eligibility is determined based on questionnaire responses and requires proof to be submitted with the application by the closing date of May 6, 2026.

Regarding qualifications, this position does not accept educational substitution for experience, emphasizing the importance of relevant work experience, including paid, unpaid, and volunteer activities which hold equal value. Experience in national service programs like Peace Corps or AmeriCorps, as well as various community or social organizations, qualifies towards the required experience. Foreign educational credentials may be considered only if deemed equivalent to conventional U.S. education standards, which applicants must prove.

Overall, this job opportunity at the Child Development Center on Patrick SFB offers a meaningful career path for individuals passionate about child care and development, safety, sanitation, and community support within a military base environment. The role combines practical skills, physical activity, and a supportive benefit package to ensure the employee's performance and well-being.
