About the role: The Food Service Worker at Ball State University Dining functions as an integral part of the food preparation and service team under supervision. This position involves a variety of responsibilities such as assembling meal supplies, setting up service areas, serving food, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas, operating dishwashing and auxiliary equipment, managing cashier functions using computerized registers, and ensuring excellent customer service through engaging interactions with patrons. Physical demands of the job include frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 35 pounds unassisted, and performing tasks that require manual dexterity and endurance. The role requires attentiveness to safety protocols, proper food handling, and hygiene standards in compliance with university and health regulations. The Food Service Worker may also be responsible for assisting with the preparation of fresh produce, grilling or carving food, assigning work to student employees, laundry support, and enforcing payment procedures. Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • able to perform physical requirements including walking, standing for extended periods, lifting up to 35 pounds unassisted
  • no allergies to soaps, cleaning agents or environmental factors in food service
  • clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing
  • must be authorized to work in the US without employer sponsorship

Job Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Cashier Training Class and passing score on final test (if performing cashier duties)
  • ability to read and comprehend safety, hazardous materials, and university policies
  • experience in school or hospital cafeteria or similar quantity food preparation or service (preferred)
  • good customer service skills
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions

Job Duties
