Job Description
Beverly Hospital, located in Beverly, Massachusetts, is a respected healthcare institution that is part of the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) system. This reputable hospital serves the community by providing comprehensive medical care and compassionate services to patients. With a commitment to improving health outcomes and enhancing the patient experience, Beverly Hospital employs thousands of dedicated professionals across a variety of medical, technical, and administrative fields. At Beverly Hospital, teamwork, skill, and compassion come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients and the broader community it serves.
As part of its commitment to excellent healthcare delivery, the hospital also supports vital food and dietary services, essential to patient care and visitor satisfaction. This specific opportunity is for a part-time Cafeteria Cashier position that plays a key role in the smooth operation of the hospital’s cafeteria services. Reporting to the Retail Supervisor, the cashier is entrusted with daily responsibilities integral to customer service and operational efficiency within a bustling hospital environment.
The role of Cafeteria Cashier provides a blend of customer service, operational management, and teamwork in a healthcare setting. This position involves preparing coffee and arranging food items for sale, ringing up orders, and handling various payment transactions. The cashier also manages cash drawers, ensuring accuracy at the start and end of every shift. Depending on the assigned shift, the cashier may be responsible for opening or closing the cafeteria, including completing setup or cleanup checklists that maintain hygienic and efficient food service standards.
Working independently in a busy environment, the successful candidate will be expected to deliver excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service consistently. This position requires maintaining a clean and sanitary workstation at all times to comply with health standards critical in a hospital cafeteria. The role also supports inventory by assisting with storage, stocking, rotation, and maintenance of products and equipment.
To succeed in this position, candidates must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted and be able to stand for extended periods with frequent bending and twisting motions. The role offers a flexible rotating shift schedule totaling approximately 20 hours per week, ideal for individuals seeking part-time work in a supportive, health-focused environment.
Compensation for this position ranges from $17.00 to $22.88 per hour, reflecting various factors such as experience, education, shift differentials, and additional pay practices. As with all positions within the BILH system, the hospital requires vaccination against influenza as a condition of employment to ensure patient and staff safety. In addition to a dynamic work environment and competitive pay, employees benefit from working in an inclusive workplace that values equal opportunity and diversity, including veterans and disabled individuals.
Joining Beverly Hospital means becoming part of a team of over 35,000 healthcare professionals including nurses, doctors, technicians, therapists, researchers, teachers, and more, all dedicated to making a significant impact on patients' lives. This Cafeteria Cashier role offers an important opportunity to contribute to the comfort and wellbeing of patients and visitors through essential food services, while developing valuable skills in a respected healthcare organization with a mission centered on care and compassion.
