Job Description
UW Medicine-Montlake - Food and Nutrition is seeking to fill a full-time Barista position within its Nutrition and Food Services department. The Barista role involves operating a remote food service area or espresso bar, preparing and serving both food and espresso beverages, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the workspace. This person acts as an ambassador for the department, providing respectful, excellent customer service within a medical setting to a diverse group of customers. The position is full-time with a day shift schedule, compensating between $21.70 and $24.97 per hour. It is a regular, unionized position offering extensive benefits and the opportunity to grow professionally within UW Medicine.
The Barista will be responsible for training new employees, handling food service equipment, managing inventory and presentation of food and beverage items, and cash handling including proper processing of various forms of payment. Job Requirements
- Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment
- one year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage
- equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except where legal requirements exist
- ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week
- capable of performing duties in a health care environment
- ability to operate food service machinery safely and efficiently
- adherence to department policies and procedures
- availability to work day shift
- membership in WFSE Campuswide union
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- one year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage
- ability to operate espresso and food service equipment
- experience with customer service in a food service environment
- ability to train new employees
- familiarity with cash register operations
- knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
Job Duties
- Provides excellent, respectful customer service to a diverse customer base in a medical setting
- train new or unskilled employees in the preparation and service of espresso beverages and food items
- cleaning and stocking duties and departmental procedures
